Funeral service for shot dead police officers in Kusel – SWR Aktuell

An ecumenical service was held in Kusel on Thursday evening to commemorate the police officer and her colleague who were killed earlier in the week.

Because of the current Corona regulation, only a good 100 mourners were allowed in the church. Including family members, friends and colleagues of the dead. Around 700 people watched the broadcast of the service on the market square in front of the town church. Masks were compulsory there.

Many quiet moments during the service

We ask him to let us calm down, that he gives us the strength to face life and our future together trustworthy,” says Christel Wolf.

“The lights of life of Yasmin and Alexander have gone out brutally”

Dean Lars Stetzenbach added: “A terrible thing happened early Monday morning. Yasmin and Alexander’s lives went out brutally.” And Pastor Isabell Aulenbacher said: “Words are often unable to express how we are doing, what we feel. That’s why we want to be silent with each other, endure the silence and thus perceive and support each other.” As a result, two candles in the sanctuary went out.

“You will never walk alone” at the end

The commemoration came to an end with the passing on of a candlelight among those attending the service, the “Our Father” and a prayer by Pastor Sabine Schwenk-Vilov. “If we go out now, we’ll take our candles with us. Also memorial service at the police and nationwide minute of silence

The Rhineland-Palatinate police will also say goodbye to their dead colleagues with a funeral service. Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) and Interior Minister Roger Lewentz (SPD) will take part in the celebration. It will take place on Friday in camera. The state government is also planning an official act of mourning – but the place and time have not yet been determined. There will also be a nationwide minute’s silence at 10 a.m. on Friday.

The 24-year-old prospective police officer and her 29-year-old colleague were shot dead early Monday morning during a routine check near Ulmet. Two suspects are in custody. The police and prosecutors assume that the two suspects poached in the wooded area. They wanted to cover up the poaching by killing the police officers.
