Fuel prices: More power in the fight against the oil companies – economy

When the tank discount got heated in the early summer of last year, another political instrument was put in the shop window on the fringes of the dispute: tightening of competition law. In order to give the Cartel Office more clout, for example against the mineral oil companies, Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) wanted to facilitate the so-called skimming off of benefits. Put simply, the idea behind it is: anyone who violates competition law can have part of their profits confiscated by the state.
