For the 30th anniversary of “Friends”: The streaming service Max is filming a game show in recreated sets of the cult series.

Almost exactly 30 years ago, on September 22, 1994, “Friends” started on the US broadcaster NBC. The streaming service Max (formerly known as HBO Max) is celebrating the anniversary with a game show. In the four-part format entitled “Fast Friends”, the ultimate fans of the sitcom will be chosen. This was announced by Max according to US media in a press release.

The game show will be set in “The Friends Experience,” a two-story attraction in New York. The exhibition recreates sets from the series: The apartment of Rachel (Jennifer Aniston, 55) and Monica (Courteney Cox, 60). The bachelor pad of Joey (Matt LeBlanc, 57) and Chandler (Matthew Perry, 1969-2023). The famous (fictional) Central Perk café, where the friends regularly met. Behind the scenes, the candidates have to answer questions about the series and master other challenges.

Production of “Fast Friends” starts in October

Production of “Fast Friends” is scheduled to begin in October, but a broadcast date on Max has not yet been announced. A German launch of the game show is also up in the air, and the streaming service will not be available until 2026. Max already broadcast the special “Friends: The Reunion” in 2021, in which the stars met in the original sets. In Germany, the special is available on Sky Go and WOW.

“Friends” ran in the USA from 1994 to 2004, as one of the most successful and influential series of its time. The sitcom started in Germany on July 17, 1996.
