In view of Russia’s attack on Ukraine and the economic consequences, Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) is calling for a new attempt at a free trade agreement with the USA. “We should resume negotiations on a transatlantic free trade agreement. Right now, in the crisis, it shows how important free trade with partners in the world who share our values is,” Lindner said Handelsblatt. “We should learn from the experiences of the TTIP talks.” The free trade agreement TTIP (“Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership”) was put on hold in 2016.
