François Hollande hopes that 2023 will show “the superiority of democracies”

Former socialist president François Hollande, predecessor of Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée, hopes in his wishes on Saturday that 2023 will allow democracies to demonstrate their “superiority” over dictatorships.

“The year that is ending has been one of great upheavals. The coming year may be one of all dangers”, warns the former Head of State (2012-2017) citing “the escalation of conflicts on a planetary scale, the cruel repression of peoples and especially women claiming their rights, the rise of inequalities in the face of the coming recession. »

Solidarity and responsibility

According to him, “the answer cannot lie in closing down, withdrawing or exacerbating fears. It would be choosing regression and decline. On the contrary, 2023 must demonstrate the superiority of democracies over authoritarian regimes. »

François Hollande hopes to see Europe take “a new step in the coming year to ensure its security and fulfill its climate duties”. And for France, “the urgency is to promote solidarity that strengthens national cohesion. And a policy that engages the great transformation of our economy and our ways of life. »

“Let’s therefore set aside anything that could divide us unnecessarily or stigmatize the most fragile”, he concludes, hoping “on the part of the leaders a great responsibility, and on the side of the citizens a clear awareness of what is at stake in our democracies. »
