Four new games authorized in Parisian gaming clubs

Four new gambling games (blackjack, craps, sic-bo and bingo) will be authorized from Wednesday in Parisian gaming clubs, according to a decree published Tuesday in the Official Journal. Blackjack, craps and sic-bo – the last two being dice games – are added to a list of seven so-called “matching” games, in which the player competes against the establishment, such as multicolored billiards or ultimate poker. Bingo is part of the “circle” games, where players play against each other, just like baccarat or mah-jong for example.

Eight licensed gaming clubs

Casinos have been banned since 1920 within a radius of 100 km around Paris, with a single exception for the establishment of Enghien-les-Bains, in Val-d’Oise. But since January 1, 2018, the law has authorized “gaming clubs” in the capital in a highly regulated manner in the form of experimentation.

This law aimed to put an end to Parisian “gaming circles”, which fueled money laundering and banditry. The eight gaming clubs cannot currently offer roulette or slot machines. The experiment, supposed to end in 2020, was extended for the first time until the end of 2022, then a second time until December 31, 2024.
