Foundation sues for release of Prince Harry’s US visa application

Prince Harry has publicly acknowledged his drug use in the past. Under US law, this may be grounds for denial of entry. A US foundation now wants to check whether his entry was legal and is taking him to court.

The British Prince Harry is threatened with legal trouble in his adopted country USA in the course of the publication of his memoirs. Because he reports in it about previous drug use, a right-wing conservative US foundation demands insight into the immigration documents submitted by Harry. The foundation questions whether the immigration authorities properly approved Prince Harry’s entry application – and whether the 38-year-old made truthful statements there. Yesterday there was a hearing in the US capital Washington.

Drug use reason to refuse visa

King Charles III’s son has been living in the USA with his wife Duchess Meghan for several years. The Heritage Foundation had previously asked the Department of Homeland Security to grant access to Prince Harry’s visa application on the basis of the Freedom of Information Act. She argues that the drug admission could be a reason for denying the visa. The publication of the visa application is therefore of immense public interest, according to the “Heritage Foundation”.

Information on drug use?

Harry had written about drug experiences in his memoirs entitled “Spare” (German: “Reserve”). The foundation now wants to check whether Prince Harry provided information on drug use in his visa application. The Ministry had not complied with the request and had pointed out that Harry had not given his consent to the publication of the documents.

Still no decision

At yesterday’s court hearing in Washington, no decision had been reached in the case. The judge gave the Department of Homeland Security until next Tuesday to decide how to proceed, US broadcaster CNN reported.

Prince Harry himself is not part of the process between the foundation and the US Department and accordingly was not present. Yesterday he testified as a witness in a spying trial against the “Mirror” publishers in London.
