Forrest Gump Remake: Life’s a Box of Golgappan Culture

Of

David Piper

So life is not a box of chocolates, as we learn in the very first scene of “Laal Singh Chaddha”, but a box full of Golgappas: “Even if the stomach is already full, the heart still wants more of it.” Golgappas are small Indian dumplings that are filled with savory foods at street stalls. It’s almost as beautiful as a picture as the chocolates you never know what’s inside, and it says something similar: you should bite off life, no matter what the circumstances. Because there is only one life, that’s all you get. And the heart is more important than the mind.
