Sebastian Vettel is actually retired from Formula 1. Now there are rumors about a return of the former world champion.

In Formula 1 there is speculation about a lightning comeback by Sebastian Vettel. After Lance Stroll’s bike accident, the German, who retired at the end of last season, is being traded as a replacement candidate at his former racing team Aston Martin for the start of the season in Bahrain in a week’s time.

Team boss Mike Krack admitted to general discussions with Vettel during the test drives in the desert state, but did not go into details. “I had a few phone calls with Sebastian, but that was the case last year and will continue to be so in the future,” said the Luxembourger. Has Vettel declared his willingness to come back if Aston Martin needs a replacement for Stroll? “I can’t tell you that,” Krack said. “First of all, our plan is to have Lance in the car and then we’ll see.”

Stroll’s wheel accident

Stroll was injured in a bike accident during training, which is why the Canadian was unable to take part in the tests. Aston Martin spoke of a “minor accident”, the second regular driver alongside Fernando Alonso also expects a “rapid recovery”. But there are rumors that Stroll could be out longer. Brazilian Felipe Drugovich replaced him in the tests, which ended on Saturday.

Vettel ended his Formula 1 career at Aston Martin at the end of last season to have more time for his family and his sustainability projects. “You have to remember that he planned his retirement very carefully and you have to respect that,” said Krack. “Let’s wait and see what happens.”
