He was the face of the “heute” news on ZDF for more than 30 years: TV journalist Claus Seibel has died. Seibel’s style “set standards to this day,” according to ZDF editor-in-chief Frey.
The longtime presenter of the ZDF “heute” show, Claus Seibel, died on Tuesday at the age of 85. This was announced by the Mainz broadcaster. Born in Gießen, Seibel presented the “heute” news from 1971 to 2005 – for more than three decades. According to ZDF, with 30 years of service at the time, he became the longest-serving German news anchor.
Before that, Seibel studied German and history in Marburg as well as journalism and theater studies in Berlin. He then completed a traineeship at the Hessischer Rundfunk radio station. He worked there from 1963 until he moved to ZDF in 1971.
Frey: “Face will be remembered”
“As a reliable and memorable companion, he informed viewers about world events, from the times of the Cold War to the historical change after 1989,” said ZDF editor-in-chief Peter Frey. “His face will be remembered, his style of reserved commitment sets standards to this day.”
