Former BBC presenter Huw Edwards admits possession of child pornography – Media

Former BBC presenter Huw Edwards has admitted to possessing child pornography. The 62-year-old Briton admitted the charges against him in court in London. This means that there will be no trial.

The prosecution accused Huw of “producing indecent images of children.” In the UK, this also means distributing, clicking on and saving such images. According to the prosecution, he had been in contact with an adult since 2020 who sent him pornographic images and videos via WhatsApp, dozens of them of minors. Edwards now faces a prison sentence. The sentence is due to be announced on September 16.

Among them are said to be six images in the so-called “Category A”, the most serious category of “indecent images”. This category includes images that show the most serious abuse. According to the indictment, Edwards also possessed several images in the less serious categories B and C. Prosecutor Ian Hope said in court that the images also included pictures of seven to nine-year-old children.

Edwards worked for the broadcaster for 40 years, where he presented the news programme “News at Ten” and covered major events such as the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Edwards had already been charged and released on bail in 2023. The BBC ended its collaboration with him in April.
