At the beginning you hear words from Paul Celan, “the endless sledge track of the lost”. Carola Schuler cautiously steps onto the stage in Zurich’s Neumarkt Theater. It is a circular surface of water, the promise of a black depth into which one could plunge when everything has become too much. At the back, upright, also circular, is the baroque painting of a landscape, grey on black, church, pastures, meadows, hills. Later the picture of this landscape is opened up, to the right and left, there are mirrors inside, a three-part winged altar is created from these mirrors, fog flows in, you can hear the waves rolling loudly, but we are not there yet. First of all Carola stands in this fantastic stage design by Ersan Mondtag and tells the story.
