In the south there is a risk of thunderstorms and prolonged rain. In the north there may be the odd squall. Central Germany is luckier.

In southern Germany, there is a risk of severe Thunderstorms, people in the northwest and north have to prepare for windy showers. The reason for this is low pressure Swantje, as meteorologist Tanja Egerer from the German Weather Service (DWD) said on Saturday. It has been swarming over the North Atlantic, the North Sea and Scandinavia for some time and is extending its feelers in the form of a frontal system over Eastern Europe into the south of Germany.

“This means that in the warm, moist air mass between the frontal system and the Alps, heavy showers and thunderstorms, as well as longer periods of rain, can form.” The expected amounts of precipitation in the area are nowhere near those of last weekend. “However, the soils there are still mostly saturated. This means that the current weather and warning situation in these regions will certainly be followed more closely.”

High Xenophilius only in Germany

The DWD is predicting clouds south of the Main on Sunday and rain in some areas, especially south of a line from Karlsruhe to Nuremberg, which may include heavy showers and thunderstorms. Heavy rain is therefore possible in some places and there is a risk of severe weather.

According to Egerer, cool and windy showers are expected in the north-west and north in the coming days. “The odd squall directly on the coast is also quite possible.” This will initially only affect the North Sea area on Saturday, and then the Baltic Sea area from Sunday onwards. According to the meteorologist, maximum temperatures will not reach 20 degrees: “In short, not exactly the kind of weather you want for a few days on the beach. You’ll need a windproof jacket rather than swimwear.”

Things are looking better in the central parts of the country. According to Egerer, the Xenophilius high will bring sunny to cloudy and dry conditions. Maximum temperatures there on Sunday will be between 19 and 22 degrees.

According to the DWD, prolonged rain and isolated thunderstorms are possible in the south and southeast overnight into Monday, particularly south of the Danube. On Monday, the weather will continue to be variable to heavily cloudy. Clearings are therefore most likely to be expected in the south and east. Meteorologists are predicting showers and short hailstorms for the northwest. In the south, heavy rain is expected to begin with, retreating to the edge of the Alps during the day.

According to the information, the coastal area will remain partly cloudy with showers and gusty winds. Nationwide, temperatures will only reach 15 to 21 degrees.
