A 51-year-old employee of a Catholic daycare center in the Forchheim district is in custody on suspicion of sexually abusing a five-year-old girl. As police and prosecutors jointly announced, the man, who worked as a nurse in a daycare center in the Ebermannstadt area, is said to have “indecently touched the child’s upper body” while at work. The Bamberg district court has issued an arrest warrant against the man, and he was arrested last Friday.
The police did not provide any further information, including what duties the suspect had at the daycare center and how long he had been working there.
The Archdiocese of Bamberg, which runs the facility, had previously announced that a case of sexual abuse had occurred in a daycare center in the Forchheim district. After the child’s parents made the allegations, the accused was released from duty with immediate effect “until the allegations are clarified.” Because the man is said to have actively touched the child, the act is not legally classified as assault or sexual violence, but as abuse.
According to investigators, the background to the crime has not yet been clarified. It is also unclear whether there are other children from the daycare center affected or whether there are other allegations against the man.
The Archdiocese of Bamberg announced that the daycare center is currently operating normally. Parents will receive comprehensive information. The Archdiocese’s abuse commissioner has informed the public prosecutor’s office. The police are investigating on site. The presumption of innocence applies until the investigation is completed.
