For lack of money, the Opéra national du Rhin cancels a performance

The Opéra national du Rhin (ONR) has already “for several months” been facing significant and unpredictable increases in its expenses. “Increase in the salaries of the territorial public service, increase in the price of raw materials and energy, as well as reductions in the staffing of some of its public partners facing the same difficulties”, indicates the institution in a press release. Also, it was announced on Wednesday that the ONR had to “resolve” to cancel one of its shows which was to be played in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin).

As a reminder, the Opéra du Rhin was created in 1972 from the gathering of Alsatian ensembles from Strasbourg, Mulhouse and Colmar. It has benefited from the national label since 1997. “We are no longer able to carry out all our missions and must resize the 2023 program which has been built for three years”, continues the ONR.

The latter therefore says that he must be forced to cancel one of the performances at La Filature de Mulhouse and to modify the other. “The performance of May 26, 2023 at 8 p.m. is canceled” and that of May 28, 2023 at 5 p.m. is transformed into a concert version, specifies the Opera, adding that “solutions have been proposed” to spectators already in possession of tickets for these two dates.
