Football World Cup: Portugal moves into the round of 16 – Sport

With the second victory at the World Cup, the European champion from 2016 reached the next round early. In the 2-0 win against Uruguay, luck helps on the defensive. The main actor is not Cristiano Ronaldo, but the two-time goalscorer Bruno Fernandes.

Former European champions Portugal were the third team to qualify early for the round of 16 at the World Cup in Qatar. Cristiano Ronaldo’s team defeated Uruguay 2-0 (0-0) and thus also won their second group game. Bruno Fernandes (54./90.+3, hand penalty) scored twice in the Lusail Stadium for the Portuguese, who survived the group stage for the fifth time in World Cup history. Uruguay, on the other hand, remain on a point and need to beat Ghana on Friday to have a chance of qualifying for the knockout rounds. Before Portugal, defending champions France and record world champions Brazil had already qualified for the round of 16.
