Football Bundesliga: Frankfurt creates air down

Status: 11/21/2021 5:49 p.m.

With a win at SC Freiburg, Eintracht Frankfurt has established a clear distance to the relegation zone. Freiburg remains third, but the competition is moving closer.

The 2-0 (2-0) in Freiburg gave Eintracht Frankfurt a five-point lead over the relegation place. After the second defeat in a row, SC Freiburg remains third in the table, but the lead in fourth place has now shrunk from five points on matchday 10 to one point on matchday 12.

Lindström and Kostic bring Frankfurt forward

Frankfurt’s Jesper Lindström (13th) and Lucas Höler (21st) from Freiburg gave their team the lead in the initial phase. Lindström did better later and after a failed defense by Maximilian Eggestein scored the 1-0 for the guests from eight meters away (34th).

Filip Kostic created a comfortable lead at the break with a directly converted free kick (43.). The free kick was actually a cross from the right side, but the ball bounced off the inside post into the goal without touching the ball from another player.

Freiburg can no longer do it

After the break, Nicolas Höfler initially had the best chance for Freiburg. His header from twelve meters landed on the post (51.). On the other hand, Lindström brought danger again, but Freiburg goalkeeper Mark Flekken blocked the shot from 18 meters (56th). A little later, Frankfurt’s Tuta again saved the defeated goalkeeper Kevin Trapp on the line when Vincenzo Grifo had shot (57th).

In the 70th minute, Höler still had a chance for Freiburg from close range, but Trapp fended off – Frankfurt then won the away win confidently.

Freiburg in Bochum, two home games for Frankfurt

Freiburg will now play next Saturday (November 27th, 2021, 3:30 p.m.) at VfL Bochum. Eintracht Frankfurt has two home games in the coming week: On Thursday (9 p.m.) Royal Antwerp from Belgium will be a guest in the Europa League, on Sunday (3:30 p.m.) Frankfurt will play against Union Berlin.
