Football: Bremen returns to the Bundesliga

Status: 15.05.2022 5:29 p.m

A year after relegation, Werder Bremen managed to return to the Bundesliga immediately. In the last game against Regensburg, Niclas Füllkrug and Marvin Ducksch were reliable.

Ducksch (21) and Füllkrug (19) share 40 goals this season – the fact that coach Ole Werner ended the interplay immediately after taking office and let both storm side by side was clearly the decisive move for promotion.

Ducksch presents the 1:0

Consequently, the two leaders also decided Bremen’s last second division game on Sunday (May 15, 2022) at Jahn. Füllkrug made it 1-0 for the Hanseatic League in the 10th minute, Ducksch served him on the edge of the penalty area.

After that, Regensburg came into play better and also had a few half-chances, but mostly from a distance.

Jahn doesn’t care about the superiority

Shortly after the restart, Jahn dominated the midfield, but conceded the decisive 0:2 after a throw-in by Patrick Weiser in the 51st minute: Romano Schmid outplayed Jan Elvedi, failed to keeper Alexander Weidinger – but Ducksch used his rebound ice-coldly.

After that Regensburg limited themselves to occasional pinpricks, but Bremen defended very concentrated and had made the return to the top flight perfectly at 5.23 p.m.
