From November 26 to 28, the food bank of the Gironde organizes its large annual collection in 250 stores, against 200 last year, to meet the increasing needs of associations.
Volunteers are needed, in particular in the Médoc and in the South Gironde. If the staff are starting to be full for the collection, there is a lack of volunteers to sort the food in the weeks following the collection.
Dry products that keep for a long time
The products requested are dry products with a long shelf life, with high nutritional value: starchy foods (rice and semolina in priority), canned fish, meat and vegetables. To be avoided: fresh products and baby products.
The 2020 collection broke all records in quantity with 469 tonnes, or more than one million meal equivalents. Also this year, the Food Bank hopes to replenish the necessary stocks.
