Floor Jansen has breast cancer

Metal singer Floor Jansen has a huge fan base around the world – and has now shocked her followers with dramatic news: the Dutchwoman has breast cancer.

Jansen, best known in Germany for her appearances on the VOX show “Sing mein Song”, informed her fans about the shock diagnosis on October 26 via social media.

The 41-year-old explained emotionally: “Life comes in waves, with ups and downs. I have had the pleasure of experiencing many highs and I have shared these with you through social media and the many, many shows around the world throughout the many years of my career. But now a new wave has hit me. No good. I have breast cancer.”

However, there is reason for hope: “My prognosis is very good!!! It appears to be a non-aggressive cancer that has not spread. I will keep my chest.”

Finally, she promised her fans to take good care of themselves. And: “If everything goes according to plan, I’ll be back on my feet in time for the European tour with Nightwish, which starts on November 20th! And I’m optimistic because my prognosis is good!”

Jansen is Dutch, lives in Sweden and sings in a Finnish band – Nightwish. Before that (from 1997 to 2009) she was the singer of the metal band After Forever.

Jansen has been singing for Nightwish since October 2013. The singer recalled the moment when she became the front singer of the Finnish band in the music magazine Metal Hammer: “I was talking to our bassist Marco when suddenly Tuomas came over to us and asked me if I would like to continue as a permanent member. We took a few steps away from the bar because people around us could see us. I had to hide my tears, which happens to me all the time. That’s kind of what a marriage proposal must feel like.” (rob)
