More than 100 people were killed in the flood disaster in July. Now another victim of the flood has been discovered – but not in Germany.

A woman from the Rhineland-Palatinate Ahr valley who has been missing since the flood disaster was found dead in Rotterdam. The body was discovered a few weeks ago, said a spokesman for the Koblenz police force responsible for the Ahr valley on Friday. Apparently the woman was driven through the Rhine to Rotterdam.

Only at the end of September could investigators have been able to identify the woman using a DNA sample. The analysis took time. The number of people missing after the flood thus fell to two, while the number of deaths rose by one to 134.

Heavy rains had triggered catastrophic flooding on rivers in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia in mid-July. Many communities, especially in the Ahr Valley, were devastated. In Rhineland-Palatinate, 134 people were killed in connection with the flood. Eight other dead people found had died before the flood, according to the state operations management. There were 48 deaths in North Rhine-Westphalia.
