Five spots to cool off in hot weather

Are you not moving this summer and the boiling bitumen is already making you sweat? Don’t panic, we have some ideas for you to cool off this summer without leaving the city. The reflecting pool can bring a little comfort, but in the event of a heat wave, it will not be tolerable for long.

  • To take the plunge.

Bordeaux Lac beach covers nearly 3,000 m2 with a supervised swimming area with free access, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Note that a pine forest is fitted out with picnic tables and that it has a shaded meadow. The perfect place to spend an afternoon with the family. Other activities on the lake (sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking, etc.) are subject to the presentation of a health pass for people over 18 years old.

Behind the thickness of the walls of the submarine base, you will be able to enjoy the Basins of Light exhibition at your ease. Video projections of masterpieces by Renoir, Chagall, Monet and Klint will necessarily be sheltered from the sun’s rays.

It’s a slightly sportier option but worth it. From Bordeaux, head for Entre-Deux-Mers via a cycle path, which partly runs along the Garonne, to Latresne. You will then join the beautiful Roger Lapébie cycle path (47 km), so named in homage to the winner of the Tour de France in 1937. The walk is dotted with heritage nuggets and shaded spots (and there is even a refreshment bar.)

For the more connected, there is the option of Wave Surf Cafe which allows those who cannot go to the coast to try their hand at board sports. This has a particular cost since a 50-minute session on the indoor wave costs 25 euros. During the holidays, the center is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • To quench your thirst at the water’s edge.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.For the less athletic,
la guinguette Chez Alriq can be a very pleasant refuge. Located on the banks of the Garonne on the right bank, it offers a large terrace under the trees and a superb view of the 18th century facades of the left bank. However, we will have to wait a bit since after the detection of cases of Covid in the staff, the establishment is closed until July 27 inclusive.

Note that the town hall is installing foggers this summer in around ten public spaces (squares and parks whose list can be found here.) And, in the event of a heat wave, municipal parks will be open until 11 p.m.
