First loss in a year for New Zealand deprived of a Grand Slam by South Africa

So close to the goal, the All Blacks were deprived of a grand slam in rugby championship by the South African world champions, winners at the end of the suspense (31-29) on the last day, at Robina Stadium, Australia. This is the first defeat for the selection led by Ian Foster since November 2020 and the loss conceded against Argentina (25-15).

Shortly beaten a week ago by the New Zealanders (19-17), the South Africans, reigning world champions, sealed their victory in stoppage time thanks to a penalty from Elton Jantjies.

“Congratulations to South Africa, they were impressive,” said All Blacks captain Ardie Savea. “We fought until the end but unfortunately we did not manage to win, too bad”. Half-disappointment only for New Zealand: the All-Blacks had sealed their title in the previous match.
