Fires in the Pyrénées-Orientales: the Minister of the Interior will go “in support” of the firefighters this Wednesday

1100 hectares of vegetation were ravaged by the fire which broke out late Tuesday morning in Opoul-Périllos. More than 200 firefighters are still engaged on the front this Wednesday, June 29.

At the height of the intervention, more than 320 firefighters fought the flames north of Perpignan in recent hours. Significant air resources have also been deployed to slow down an uncontrollable fire that started in the town of Opoul-Périllos, late Tuesday morning, and which has destroyed more than 1,100 hectares of vegetation so far.

This Wednesday, June 29 at 12 p.m., the fire front remains active and 250 firefighters are still working to control the fire. They hope to contain the fire in the next few hours according to the authorities on site. And it is precisely on the scene of the fire that should go this Wednesday the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin.

In a tweet posted shortly after 12 p.m., he announces: “I will be going to the Pyrénées-Orientales today to give my full support to the state services, firefighters and rescuers deployed in the face of violent fires.”
