We are experiencing a disaster – Patrick Davet, Mayor of La Teste-de-Buch

6:30 a.m. – The fire started on runway 214 near the ocean beach road, explains the mayor of La Teste-de-Buch live on France bleu Gironde. It’s a vehicle that had an electrical problem, which caught fire. “We are at 430 hectares of burns and it is not over because the fire is not under control, the day is breaking, we have winds announced at 35 km / h and there is concern because the fire is heading back to a sector that has not yet burned. Until now, it was heading towards the coast and at the level of the campsites which we had to evacuate as a precautionary measure and lodge in our exhibition center”. The mayor of La Teste does not hide his emotion on France Bleu: “We are going through a disaster, I am very affected, very touched. It’s unheard of. I flew over the burning massif in a helicopter yesterday, it’s impressive”.

6:25 a.m. – Several roads are closed due to the fires, in particular the departmental 115 between Guillos and Landiras and the departmental 218 at the level of the Dune du Pilat.

6:20 a.m. – According to the latest report from the Gironde firefighters, since the Landiras and La Teste-de-Buch fires broke out on Tuesday afternoon, more than 6,500 people have been evacuated, and nearly 1,400 hectares went up in smoke.

6 a.m. – “The day is breaking and this will allow an aerial reconnaissance of the disaster” explains Marie Rouarch, reporter for France Bleu Gironde in Landiras. Two firefighters had to be transferred to the Bordeaux University Hospital after inhaling fumes. No other injuries to report. Five hundred people were evacuated last night. The hamlets where they live were downwind and therefore in the smoke.

5:45 a.m. – Five campsites have been evacuated according to the Department of Gironde. La Teste-de-Buch is located just next to Arcachon, on the Bassin. In this very touristy area, the plume of smoke was visible from the beach on Tuesday.
