A large cheese warehouse catches fire in Switzerland for reasons that are still unknown. A large amount of Gruyere was destroyed. However, the supply of the retail trade is probably secured.

A fire in a cheese warehouse in Switzerland destroyed 11,000 wheels of Gruyere cheese. The cause of the accident in Vuisternens-en-Ogoz, around 50 kilometers southwest of Bern, was still unknown on Friday, as the police reported at a press conference.

The fire broke out on Thursday in a 200 by 300 meter building complex. On Friday there were still small fires that the fire brigade could not extinguish because they could not advance because of the collapsed roof. Seven people had received medical attention with suspected smoke inhalation. A good half of the cheeses belonged to a company belonging to the Migros cooperative. However, the supply of the Migros supermarkets with Gruyere (also known as Gruyère) is secured, said a company representative.
