Feynoord Rotterdam – OM: The Marseillais save the furniture despite too many errors

At the De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam,

What a game and what a night. Olympique de Marseille conceded a narrow defeat 3 goals to 2 Thursday evening against Feyenoord Rotterdam in the semi-final first leg of the Europa League Conference, in an incandescent atmosphere. The Marseille defense made too many mistakes, probably caught up in what was at stake, and Bamba Dieng was too imprecise. But OM keep all their chances before the return match in Marseille next Thursday.

An incredibly feverish Marseille defense

Caleta Car’s loss of the ball just after returning from the locker room, to offer the 3rd goal to Feyenoord (46th), sums up in itself, or almost, the defensive feverishness of OM. But the Croatian, released at the hour mark, is not the only one to incriminate, there was not one to catch up with the other. Rongier, Saliba, Peres and company chained bad raises and hazardous clearances from the first minutes, and throughout the match. To wonder if they weren’t doing it on purpose? Nothing like it to give confidence to an opponent, very good in pressing. And that’s what happened with two goals conceded by Mandanda in less than two minutes, by Dessers (18th) and Sinisterra (20th). With, each time, balloons behind the Marseille defense. But the Feyenoord did not show much more serenity.

Dieng VS Sinisterra

Jorge Sampaoli and Arne Slot, two coaches with the same style of play, from two teams who like to have the ball. And the same idea to make the difference: depth. With Bamba Dieng for OM, and Luis Sinisterra for Feyenoord. It was the Colombian who landed the first arrow, therefore, and allowed him to get into the head of the entire right side of OM, Rongier and Guendouzi in particular. The Senegalese answered him less than ten minutes more (28th), to give a reason to believe in the Marseillais. But Sinisterra ultimately showed more than Dieng, especially accuracy. What was sorely missed by the Marseille striker.

What an atmosphere!

No doubt, the best European atmospheres are concentrated in this Europa League Conference. This match between Feyenoord and Olympique de Marseille proved it again. What a football party, started outside the stadium by the procession of the Marseillais, despite their 15 hours and a few on the bus. And what about the Feyenoord supporters’ tifo “Never stop dreaming” and their pyrotechnic show? We thought that the Marseillais had taken the upper hand with the equalizer from Gerson (39th), but the match from the stands was rebalanced in the second period. With a special mention to the Dutch authorities, who perfectly knew how to manage the movement of the Marseillais.
