Double change in Feldkirchner municipal council: The third mayor Thomas Zimmermann and his son Alexander Zimmermann leave the board. Both represented the parliamentary group of the Independent Voters’ Association (UWV), to which Mayor Andreas Janson also belongs. As Thomas Zimmermann states, it is no longer possible to exercise the honorary post for personal reasons. In his own words, Mayor Janson regrets the resignation of the long-standing members. Both were experienced local politicians: Thomas Zimmermann had been a member of the municipal council since he was promoted in January 2012, and Alexander Zimmermann had been a member of the committee since 2014. According to Janson, they will contribute their knowledge to the work of the parliamentary groups in an advisory capacity.

Daniel Golibrzuch, also from the UWV parliamentary group, will take over the post of third mayor that has become vacant due to Thomas Zimmermann’s departure. The election in the municipal council meeting on Thursday evening was reminiscent of the processes of the constituent meeting after the last municipal election a good two and a half years ago. At that time, the UWV and CSU had used their newly acquired majority of twelve votes in the body to allocate the deputy posts to their own representatives. The Christian Wilhelm proposed by the SPD, who was able to win more than 40 percent of Feldkirch voters in the runoff election for the mayoral office and received the most votes in the local council election after Janson, went away empty-handed. Now Wilhelm ran again for the office of third mayor and had to admit defeat to Golibrzuch in an anonymous vote by twelve votes to eight.

Anneliese Oettrich and Manuel Schön have taken the two vacant seats on the municipal council. They are the candidates who received the fifth and sixth most votes on the UWV list in the last election. According to Mayor Janson, all of the successors placed before them refused to take up the honorary post for professional reasons. With the double exit, there have been a total of four changes in the Feldkirch municipal council since the beginning of the term of office. Previously, one member each from the CSU and SPD parliamentary groups had resigned due to a move.
