Federal justice takes personal aim at Trump in investigation into White House archives

Justice does not let go of Donald Trump. Federal prosecutors have indeed informed his lawyers that the former president was personally targeted in the investigation into the management of the White House archives, according to several American media including CNN and the New York Times.

This new step, which paves the way for a possible indictment of the former tenant of the Oval Office, is another legal thorn for Donald Trump, who hopes to win a new mandate in 2024.

Certain documents classified as “secret-defence”

He is accused of having kept whole boxes of documents, including some classified “secret-defense”, after his departure from Washington in 2021 and of having refused to return them, in violation of federal laws.

US media, however, do not specify when the former president was informed, but according to CNN, his lawyers met with Justice Department officials on Monday, including Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, who is tasked with independently overseeing the investigation.
