Last summer, the signs between Aaron Martin and Mainz 05 were goodbye. FSV had signed a free left-back in Anthony Caci and therefore wanted to monetize Martin a year before his contract expired. However, this “exchange” didn’t work out, because no suitable customer was found for the Spaniard.
From the point of view of the people of Mainz, however, one should now be very happy that the planned sale has broken down. Martin has had an outstanding season so far and clearly won the competition against Caci. With three goals and two assists, the 25-year-old is one of the most prolific full-backs in Europe.
However, the left-back’s strong performances have not gone unnoticed as Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Torino FC and Bologna FC have taken notice of Martin and are eyeing a transfer. Whether a change to one of the two clubs would be an upgrade remains to be seen. Both Torino and Bologna are in the middle of the Serie A – without much prospect of a place in international business.
For their part, Mainz 05 are hoping to extend the Spaniard’s expiring contract. Of the table football had recently reported positive talks.
