FC Ingolstadt relegated from 2nd Bundesliga: draw at Karlsruher SC – 3rd league

It goes right back down.

FC Ingolstadt has been relegated from the 2nd division. The promoted team only managed a 2-2 draw in Karlsruhe on matchday 31. The gap to relegation rank 16 (ten points on Dynamo Dresden) can no longer be made up in the last three matches.

The FCI was able to take a 2-0 lead at KSC through Patrick Schmidt with a hand penalty (24th minute) and Filip Bilbija (46th). But Fabian Schleusener (69th) and Philipp Hofmann (75th) equalized for the hosts.

Ingolstadt has been in a direct relegation zone in the table since matchday six. The hapless ex-coach Roberto Pätzold (42), who only took over the post in the summer, was followed by the even more unsuccessful André Schubert (50) at the end of September. And the third coach, Rüdiger Rehm (43), hasn’t turned things around since he took office in early December. He has 13 points in 15 games so far.

Not enough to keep the class…

Nevertheless, the club wants to go into the third division season with Rehm and sports director Malte Metzelder (39). Ingolstadt’s sporting director, Dietmar Beiersdorfer (58), had already announced this.
