FC Bayern Munich is sinking deeper and deeper into the corona vortex shortly before the start of the second half of the season. The record champions recorded positive cases number seven and eight with Leroy Sané and Dayot Upamecano.

D.he FC Bayern is struggling more and more with Corona. Even the second half of the season opener in the Bundesliga against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday evening is in danger.

The Munich team had already postponed the start of training planned for January 2nd by one day. All players, coaches and supervisors had to go to the PCR test on Monday morning and were only allowed to appear on the club premises if the result was negative.

On Tuesday morning, some players came to the club grounds for a follow-up test. With national player Leroy Sané and the defenders Dayot Upamecano and Josip Stanisic “the diagnostics are not yet completed”, said the record champions. The club moved the training from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shortly beforehand, there was certainty at Sané. The winger’s positive findings on Monday were confirmed in a second test the following day. This also applies to Upamecano. “Both players are doing well, they are in domestic isolation,” said the Munich team. Stanisic’s findings, however, were negative.

Only 14 professionals in training

Most recently, the club had reported two more corona cases in its squad. World champion Lucas Hernández and his French compatriot Tanguy Nianzou are affected. This increased the number of professionals currently infected by captain Manuel Neuer to six. In addition, three physiotherapists and team manager Kathleen Krüger have apparently tested positive, Krüger also came to the follow-up test Tuesday morning. In the course of the day there were positive tests from Kingsley Coman and Corentin Tolisso.

On Monday, coach Julian Nagelsmann only had ten healthy field players on the training ground, and the national players were also training Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry in the next place for a return on Friday. There were also two goalkeepers and an additional youth goalkeeper. A total of 14 professionals. According to the statutes of the German Football League (DFL), the Gladbach game is in danger.

As soon as a club has fewer than 15 eligible players (including at least one goalkeeper), the DFL would approve a request to cancel the match. All clubs agreed on this regulation at the beginning of the pandemic.
