With a five-year delay, Thomas Tuchel could make it into the coaching position at FC Bayern. Does he lead Munich to the triple right away? Tuchel is football through and through – but he also offends.

Ever since he moved to Munich, Thomas Tuchel’s name has been haunted by FC Bayern. Now the 49-year-old should get the job as the successor to Julian Nagelsmann, which he almost started a few years ago.

According to media reports, the former coach of Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea will train with a new team on Säbener Strasse on Monday. The personnel had not yet been officially confirmed as of Friday morning, but everything came down to this spectacular commitment.

In 2018, FC Bayern hesitated too long at Tuchel

So, with a delay of five years, Tuchel comes to the Isar. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge really wanted to get the coach to record champions in 2018 – but the Munich team hesitated on this question – too long for Tuchel. He went to Paris, Bayern finally hired Niko Kovac and was not happy with it. The Bundesliga club apparently did not want to let the chance for Tuchel pass a second time. The internationally coveted football teacher, who won the Champions League with Chelsea, is still on the market. International top clubs are interested in him.

Nagelsmann’s commitment in 2021 was a promising solution for the future, but not without risk. A young coach, without any major titles and with little experience at the top European level. But the move to Tuchel is not without its groundbreaking weeks. Born in Krumbach, he rose to the Olympus of coaching at the latest with his Champions League victory in 2021 with Chelsea. But the football-obsessed Swabian sometimes offends.

The 49-year-old is often the subject of heated debates. His job at Chelsea ended in a clinch after disagreements with club owner Todd Boehly. In Paris, too, there was trouble with the club management.

“Tuchel lives football”

Tuchel is in love with detail. He is characterized by an incredible obsession to read the opponent. A tactical fox who can ponder for hours on the right line-up, merciless pressing and chains of four or three. Tuchel lives football.

A story about salt and pepper shaker tactics perfectly describes football freak Tuchel. In 2014, the coach met the then Munich coach Pep Guardiola in Munich’s posh restaurant Schumann’s. A discussion developed in which salt shakers turned into Lionel Messi or Andrés Iniesta. “Football, football, football. We only talked about football,” Guardiola later said of the meeting.

Goalkeeper oldie Gianluigi Buffon, who played under Tuchel at PSG, ennobled his former coach as exceptionally smart and sensitive. “I’ve only met a few people who are so intelligent,” said the now 45-year-old Italian. The German coach is someone who manages to get a feeling for the cabin immediately, Buffon enthused.
