Due to a mistake by Dayot Upamecano, Bayern did not keep a clean sheet in the win in Berlin. Coach Julian Nagelsmann was very annoyed.
Coach Julian Nagelsmann criticized Dayot Upamecano after FC Bayern’s 4-1 win at Hertha BSC. The reason: He conceded the goal in the 80th minute through Jurgen Ekkelenkamp.
“In the end, the goal bothered me more than the missed chances. That was superfluous. Manuel Neuer likes to keep a clean sheet and is annoyed. The others who were on the pitch from the start did it very well and conscientiously,” said Nagelsmann on DAZN.
Central defender Upamecano had come on for Lucas Hernandez just a minute earlier. His back pass to Neuer fell short, which is why Stevan Jovetic was able to disrupt goalkeeper Neuer and Ekkelenkamp could put the ball into the goal.
“Why do you play the ball directly? When I’m 95 kilos and I’m very, very fast, I dribble another meter or two and then see what happens. Jovetic has to put pressure on the goalkeeper, then you can put pressure on your central defender colleagues play”, Nagelsmann criticized the action of the 23-year-old.

FC Bayern: Upamecano with the first mission in almost a month
Upamecano missed the defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach due to a corona infection. He was in the squad for the win at 1. FC Köln, but was not used. Substituting in Berlin was the Frenchman’s first appearance in almost a month.
Overall, Upamecano, who came to Munich from RB Leipzig last summer, has played 23 competitive games so far this season. He scored one goal and prepared four more goals.
