FC Bayern Munich and the German national soccer team have had to do without full-back Giulia Gwinn for a long time. The suspicion of another cruciate ligament tear in the 23-year-old has been confirmed. As the Munich Bundesliga club announced on Monday, Gwinn had already undergone surgery on Sunday. For her it is the second cruciate ligament tear after 2020.
“It’s a very hard blow for Giulia and we all feel for her. We will support her as best we can and wish her a lot of strength,” said the sporting director of the Bayern women, Bianca Rech.
Gwinn suffered the serious knee injury last Wednesday in a training session with the DFB women. This was the result of detailed investigations after her return to Munich. Gwinn had already suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in the European Championship qualifier against Ireland in September 2020 and then fought back. She was part of the national team at the European Championships in England.
