Coach surprise in augsburg!

According to BILD information, the Bundesliga club is bringing in the Dane Jess Thorup (53) as its new coach. He will be the successor to Enrico Maaßen (39), who was the first coach of the current season to be kicked out on Monday, and will receive a contract until 2025.

Thorup was most recently a coach at FC Copenhagen and worked for the Danish record champions from November 2020 to September 2022. In recent years he has been a frequent candidate in the Bundesliga.

Only last season he was linked to VfB Stuttgart, but the Swabians ultimately decided on other candidates.

Now Thorup will be Augsburg coach!

The process was jointly controlled by sports bosses Marinko Jurendic and Michael Ströll. Heinz Moser (Director of Development) and Christoph Janker (Head of Licensing) were also involved.

Thorup has over 400 games of experience as a head coach and has also played in the Champions League with Copenhagen. At his previous clubs, the development of young players was always at the core of his work.

In Copenhagen he formed Wolfsburg snapper Jonas Wind (24), and as coach of Midtjylland, ex-Leipzig striker Alexander Sørloth (27/now Villarreal) made his breakthrough under Thorup.
