Arte documentary: “La Storia – From scandal to classic”
A book could hardly be called more powerful: “La Storia”, the story. But Elsa Morante didn’t intend her work to be that powerful. Her novel, set in Rome during World War II, tells of the life of the half-Jewish teacher Ida and her two sons. The younger one, Useppe, was conceived in a rape by a German soldier. And like much of this book, Morante herself describes this rape with a great sense of humanity.
