A 37-year-old died in an accident on Untersberg on the border between Bavaria and Austria. The man from the Freising district was part of a descending group when he slipped on a rain-soaked root and fell around 60 meters to his death over partly vertical terrain, the police said.
One of the man’s companions made an emergency call, another went down to the man who had fallen and tried to resuscitate him. Mountaineers from another group also helped. Shortly afterwards, the emergency doctor from the Traunstein rescue helicopter was only able to determine that the man was dead. Two other climbers suffered shock. They had to be flown into the valley because they could no longer descend independently.
