Months after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died on the set of Rust, her family is suing Alec Baldwin.
The relatives of the Halyna Hutchins (1979-2021) killed on the set of the western “Rust” have filed a lawsuit against Alec Baldwin (63) and other people and production companies. This is reported, among other things, by the industry portal “Deadline”. citing relevant court documents.
The family is demanding compensation in an undisclosed amount. The cinematographer, who died at the age of 42, was fatally injured on the film’s set in October after Baldwin apparently accidentally fired a gun. Police later confirmed that there was live ammunition inside. The actor claimed he didn’t pull the trigger.
Acted with gross negligence?
In the wrongful death lawsuit, Baldwin is accused of “reckless” conduct. All of the accused had also acted with gross negligence. Sufficient safety precautions were allegedly not adhered to on the set and complaints in this regard were ignored several times. “Halyna Hutchins would still be alive and well. She would hug her husband and nine-year-old son” if everyone had followed the rules, among other things.
Family lawyer Brian Panish made similar allegations during a press conference. In addition to Baldwin, the accused also include on-set gunman Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and assistant director David Halls. Before the fatal incident, he had handed Baldwin a gun and explained that it was a “cold gun” without live ammunition. The production worker later told the police that he had not checked the weapon closely enough.
