The mega update for Microsoft Flight Simulator is here: For the 40th anniversary, developer Asobo is offering a gigantic number of changes both on the technical side and in the available aircraft.

Microsoft Flight Simulator fans have marked November 11th in red in their calendars: It has long been known that developer Asobo has been working on a gigantic update, which landed yesterday at 5 p.m. German time. After announcing the release date and download size of the update called “40th Anniversary Edition Update”, on the official Flight Simulator website now also the full release notes for the patch published after some details had already been confirmed.

As expected, the PC version has the graphics options FSR 2 and DLSS 3 for AMD and Nvidia graphics cards. On the technical side, there are also numerous bug fixes and performance optimizations: The utilization of the video memory should be better limited with the fresh update via a new memory defragmentation system for DirectX 12, thus avoiding memory leaks. The graphical artifacts in the cockpit that appeared in DX 12 should also be part of the story, as should the incorrect rendering of rainbows. According to the release notes, HDR10 should now also be used properly when Microsoft Flight Simulator

Joining the new content is a massive number of new planes, gliders, and helicopters. Seven classic aircraft such as the 1903 Wright Flyer, two helicopters – the Guimbal Cabri G2 and the Bell 407 – as well as two gliders, the DG Aviation LS8-18 and DG-1001E neo, can be found in the 40th Anniversary Edition Update for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The latter are backed up with a total of seven tutorial missions.

There is also a faithful, virtual replica of the Airbus A310 to admire. Four airports have also been added: In the new update, hobby pilots can fly to Hong Kong Kai Tak, Meigs Field in Chicago, Princess Juliana International in Sint Maarten and First Flight Airport in Kitty Hawk. The four new airports are also part of the 24 “classic activities” that can be carried out with the new update.
