The fashion designer Wolfgang Joop has received clear criticism on the Internet for his opinion on the earlier handling of models.
The Green MEP Katrin Langensiepen described the statements on Twitter as “glorifying violence and humiliation of women”. In an interview with the news magazine “Spiegel”, Joop said that he cried when Karl Lagerfeld died, “because this world was so wonderfully frivolous and frigid. Everything was for sale. Joop (76) agreed when asked in «Spiegel» that this was terrible. “But the fashion world is only really beautiful if there is also sin.” A Twitter user commented: “I’m speechless right now. These women have been sexually abused and exploited and this person speaks of “sin” as if that were sexy? »
Another user went even further: “At least now it would be time for a public prosecutor to start investigations.” And another user asked with a view to Joop: “Isn’t it at least as a confidante that he is also punishable with such statements? Unbearable!”
A few users also criticized Joop’s statement in the interview that a person’s clothing style allows conclusions to be drawn about their way of thinking. The 76-year-old had asked the Greens boss Robert Habeck a tie. “There are professions where I expect a certain degree of perfection. Chief physician, for example. Or upcoming Vice Chancellor. If someone dresses sloppily, he thinks sloppily, that’s how I see it. “
He knows many highly intelligent professors who dress “sloppily”, “but only a few stupid fashion designers who believe they can judge others about their style of clothing,” wrote a user on Twitter.
