Fashion: Anne Hathaway and Andrew Garfield surprise in Rome style

For them: plateau phase!

Well, the haute couture shows in Paris are over. And the tinfoil-wrapped Nicole Kidman at Balenciaga was great, but also quite appropriate to the gravity of the situation. The most important, because the funniest, fashion moment didn’t take place in Paris, but in Rome. There Valentino showed and guest star Anne Hathaway stalked towards the Spanish Steps in very chunky platform pumps and a very short sequined dress. And that too in pink! Such a look is now hashtagged with #barbiecore. Barbie isn’t just making a comeback on the red carpet, she’s quite a presence in general – even the great Jane Goodall is now available as a Barbie, with a chimpanzee. This is of course a slap in the face for all mothers who used to forbid their children to collect Barbies in order to minimize the risk of becoming stupid. Not necessary, as it turns out now, because Anne Hathaway really doesn’t look stupid here, on the contrary. At almost 40, she wears what halfway intelligent women get from the universe for their big birthday: the I don’t care what other people think attitude. This also manifests itself in the barely-there make-up, so that the look doesn’t look overdone like that of an insecure 20-year-old. So the bottom line is that aging can be pretty fun, at least fashion-wise, because confidence is sexy after all. Everyone who used to play with Barbie knows that for a long time. Because you – pink carriage, Ken! – it really has always been irrelevant what the others say.

For him: blazer use!

British actor Andrew Garfield is about to win an Oscar, and if you don’t believe it, you should catch him in the mediocre but heartwarming musical ‘Tick, Tick…Boom!’ (Netflix) in which Garfield excels without even remotely being a good singer. Away from the film sets, the 38-year-old Cuddle Bear and Spider-Man has also shown a remarkable flair for contemporary interpretations of classic menswear for some time. Especially since he discovered the blazer for himself, a piece of clothing that he has used in all possible variations ever since, but always profitably. It’s not an easy outfit, but if you find the right cut for you, you can wear it for everything from morning mass to the Oscars. At the Valentino show in Rome, an event that must be classified as a spectacle worthy of protection, so to speak, beyond all fashion judgments of taste, Garfield really blazered out a navy blue double-breasted suit with golden buttons! A silky, flamboyant blouse with a bow tie ensures the transfer from Captain Iglo to Valentino. These pussybows could already be seen on various men’s catwalks a few years ago, but hardly anyone managed the socially acceptable integration into real life as well as Andrew Garfield now in Rome. Well, the voluminous hippie jeans are certainly debatable if everything is already wide open at the top. But it was Rome, it wasn’t Milan. And just like singing, Garfield is still worth watching when he’s improvising.
