No longer presenting cars at motor shows has long been old hat. Tech, design or furniture events are more popular than ever for the unveiling, and so the new edition of a Porsche 928 also celebrated its premiere in Milan at the furniture fair. The car-loving public got to marvel at the beauty from the 80s for the first time last weekend at the Festival of Speed in Goodwood. The enthusiasm was great.

Thierry Nardone should be more than satisfied with the past few weeks. The French car fan, just 39 years old, has realized his very own dream in Aix-en-Provence. He founded the company Nardone Automotive and even the first work caused quite a stir – first in Milan, then in the virtual world and finally at the weekend at the Festival of Speed in Goodwood, one of the most exclusive car events on the European continent. Together with the Borromeo de Silva design studio, Thierry Nardone created a spectacular modern-day sports car: a new edition of the charismatic Porsche 928, which had caused quite a stir in the late 1970s. Nardone is not only a Porsche fan, but also a transaxle fan in particular. With the help of the creative minds Carlo Borromeo and Fabio de Silva, the classic sports car of the Porsche 928 was turned into a restomod that perfectly stages the historical and the current.

The Nardone Porsche 928 restomod is still unmistakably a 928 with its unique design elements. However, the exterior and interior design has been adapted to the current time. There are standing LED eyes in the form of a technical spot and air inlets in between in the style of the Audi Ur-Quattro, clearly flared fenders and a rear view whose LED elements fit perfectly into the futuristic style of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Even with the rims, the design team at Borromeo de Silva used the style close to the original template. Instead of the well-known 16-inch tires, however, 18-inch Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires roll in the beefy caverns, which bring the around 400 hp of an eight-cylinder naturally aspirated engine to the rear axle via a six-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. New axles with electronic damper control ensure comfort and sportiness.

The interior – lined with leather and Alcantara – also remained true to the former 928 style, but has been noticeably reduced and so, in addition to the steering wheel and instruments, the center console with historical borrowings is in the foreground. However, at least Apple Carplay works on the sound system in retro design. After the cloth has lifted and the first round of applause has subsided, Thierry Nardone now has to wait. Interested parties can be noted and the order lists for the debut work from Aix-en-Provence will soon be open. Customers should be sitting in their dream car in 2024 and enjoying the design of yesteryear with today’s technology. The price is unknown; but for most people it should be a minor matter anyway.
