Benedict XVI will be honored with funeral services in Munich and Rome in the coming days. These TV stations broadcast live.
The Catholic Church bids farewell to the late Pope Benedict XVI. (1927-2022), who died in Rome on New Year’s Eve at the age of 95. TV stations will broadcast funeral services held in Munich and Rome in the coming days.
On Tuesday, January 3, BR Fernsehen will show a requiem for the deceased from Munich’s Liebfrauendom from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Cardinal Reinhard Marx (69), Archbishop of Munich and Freising, holds the Mass for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. Ratzinger was himself archbishop of Munich and Freising between 1977 and 1982 before becoming prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome. His work in Munich is to be remembered as part of the Requiem. Erwin Albrecht and Irene Esmann comment. The first shows the Requiem from 5:55 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. An episode of “WaPo Bodensee” will be canceled for this, which will be postponed to next Tuesday. “Who knows that?” starts at 7:10 p.m., “Wirtschaft vor eight” at 7:55 p.m. and the “Tagesschau” as usual at 8 p.m.
Funeral celebrations in Rome
On Thursday, January 5, from 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., BR will show the Requiem for Pope Benedict XVI. live from Rome. His successor Pope Francis (86) leads the funeral ceremonies on St. Peter’s Square. Numerous guests are expected at the funeral service, also from his German homeland. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (66) and Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (55) are expected to arrive. Erwin Albrecht and Elisabeth Möst will comment on the service, BR editor-in-chief Christian Nitsche (51) is with guests on site. From 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the station also shows a summary of the day. According to the announcement, the film by Christian Wölfel and Eckhart Querner also accompanies pilgrims, mountain riflemen and a delegation from the Free State of Bavaria on their way to the funeral ceremonies in Rome.
