They are considered effective tools in the fight against the pandemic – the 2 or 3G rules that have been introduced nationwide. There are now also 2G + or even 3G +. We explain what all of this means here.
In Germany there is now a mix of different G-rules. After 3G followed 2G and 3G +, now Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn is calling for the introduction of 2G +. So it’s getting complicated. We have a brief overview for you so that you know exactly what it is about and what you have to observe in each case with the corresponding rule.
2G rule: Recovered and vaccinated, that’s what 2G stands for. So anyone who goes to a restaurant or attends a concert where the 2G rule applies must show proof of vaccination that he or she has been vaccinated. The same goes for those who have recovered. You need appropriate documents or certificates from laboratories, authorities or a doctor. And the infection must not have been more than six months ago. 2G + rule: Recovered, vaccinated and tested. That’s the 2G + rule. Health Minister Spahn is considering introducing it, but it is not yet being implemented. Not only do you have to be vaccinated or recovered, you also have to have a negative rapid antigen test. So you need two certificates. The G + rules are due to the fact that people who have been vaccinated or recovered can also carry the virus and spread it.
3G + is only available in Bavaria
3G rule: Recovered, vaccinated, tested – that’s what 3G stands for. In contrast to the 2G rule, you can also visit a restaurant or concert if you have not been vaccinated or recovered, but instead have a negative antigen test that is not older than 24 hours. The 3G rule is the most generous, but of course it does not put any pressure on people who do not want to be vaccinated. It is currently the most widespread.
3G + rule: Recovered, vaccinated, PCR tested. With this variant, which has so far only been used in Bavaria, those tested have to prove a PCR test, which is much safer. But also more expensive. Nothing will change for those who have recovered or who have been vaccinated.
