EIt’s no longer progressing. This is probably the most important message from the new World Hunger Index (GHI), which the Welthungerhilfe organization presented in Berlin on Thursday. In 2015, the countries of the world set themselves the goal of defeating hunger worldwide within 15 years. The index shows: Little has happened since then. While the numbers fell significantly in the years after the turn of the millennium, the value has stagnated since 2016. The global GHI has only fallen by a value of 0.5 during this time. Compared to last year, the numbers have remained the same. And the new developments, such as the escalating conflicts in Sudan and Gaza, have not yet been included in the figures.
