The “rugby village” opened in Nice, at the Théâtre de Verdure, on the occasion of the World Cup, closed a little early on Wednesday evening. A decision taken “in view of the current security context”, and in particular after the Arras attack, announced the municipality.
“The Prime Minister [ayant] decided to trigger the rise to the “emergency attack” level of the Vigipirate plan […], all security forces are heavily mobilized to monitor places of worship, schools and places open to the public,” recalls the community in a press release. “The closure of the rugby village” therefore “allows us to redeploy the agents assigned to this site to protect citizens,” she explains.
The closure of the site is a lesser evil, according to the town hall, since “the absence of the Blues in the semi-final suggested a lower attendance”, she also explains.
