Facebook: Sheryl Sandberg leaves Meta – Wirtschaft as board member after 12 years

After Sheryl Sandberg resigned from her position as Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) in June 2022, the woman who made the US company great now also wants to resign from her position on the Meta supervisory board. The 54-year-old announced this on Wednesday (local time) via her Facebook account: “With a heart full of gratitude and a mind full of memories, I informed the Meta board that I will not be running for re-election in May.”

After stepping down from her role as COO two years ago after 14 years, she remained on the board “to ensure a successful transition.” The team, led by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, has “demonstrated beyond a doubt that the meta business is strong and well positioned for the future, so this is the right time to retire.” However, Sandberg continued, she will continue to “support the company in an advisory capacity” in the future.

Mark Zuckerberg thanks Sandberg for his commitment

Sandberg wrote that her almost 14 years as COO and 12 years as a board member were “the opportunity of a lifetime.” She will always be grateful to Zuckerberg for always planning for her; “He is a truly unique visionary leader and an equally amazing friend who will stay by your side through good times and bad.”

Zuckerberg thanked Sandberg’s post with a short comment: “Your dedication and leadership have been instrumental to our success, and I am grateful for your unwavering commitment to me and Meta over the years.”
