The Facebook group is giving itself a new name and wants to develop the communication platform of the future.
The Meta umbrella brand will in future be available via services such as Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.
The aim is to put the creation of a so-called “metaverse” in the foreground, a collectively usable virtual world.
Company founder Mark Zuckerberg announced this in a live stream on Thursday.
The new name causes a lot of criticism and laughter on Twitter.
