A group of young people are said to have attacked two Ghanaian children in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. State security has now taken over the investigation.

Following the alleged racist attack on two Ghanaian children in Grevesmühlen (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), the State security has taken over the investigation. The investigation team is working under pressure, said the Rostock police headquarters. The officers followed up on witnesses’ information and evaluated initial images. The investigators asked for further information from the public.

According to police, an eight-year-old girl and her ten-year-old sister were attacked by a group of around 20 teenagers and adolescents on Friday evening at around 7:30 p.m. The attackers are said to have kicked the younger girl in the face, among other things.

When the children’s parents arrived, an argument broke out with them, according to police. The eight-year-old and her father were slightly injured and were briefly taken to hospital. When the officers arrived on the scene, one of the group allegedly hurled racist insults at the victims as they left.
